Capital Credits: Notice of 1985 Unclaimed Capital Credits

This is a notice of unclaimed capital credits for members of record of Chugach Electric Association, Inc., in 1985. This list is inserted in the Anchorage Daily News four times in the month of June, 2005. If you have already contacted Chugach regarding your capital credits, there is no need to contact us again. Your expected response time is 8-12 weeks.

Capital credits are a member's share of the cooperative's margins for a year in which revenues and other operating income exceed fixed and variable expenses. The amount of an individual member's credits is proportional to the amount paid for electric service in a given year. Periodically capital credits are returned to the membership when authorized by the Chugach Board of Directors.

In 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 the board authorized the retirement of the retail capital credits earned by members of the cooperative in 1985. Chugach subsequently mailed checks or notices to the addresses on file for the members of record entitled to a share of these retirements.

Thousands of checks and notices were either not cashed or returned as undeliverable. This emphasizes the need for members to provide Chugach with a forwarding address when leaving the system - and to keep Chugach apprised of future address changes until all accumulated capital credits have been returned. The fact that a member's name appears on this list does not necessarily mean Chugach cannot find them. It means they have not cashed their capital credits check.

Even if their checks were returned as undeliverable, former members or their estates may still claim their capital credits. This special supplement contains a list of about 23,000 former members who are still due a capital credits check from the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 retirements. If your name appears on the list, or if you have information that may help Chugach locate someone listed, please fill out and submit the research form.
