Chugach plans Girdwood power outage

Chugach Electric Association is planning a power outage on Wednesday, Aug. 21. The outage will start at about 1 p.m. and is expected to last approximately four hours. The outage will affect all 1,300 Chugach members in Girdwood. Consumers in Indian and Bird will experience a momentary outage when the Girdwood Substation is placed back into service.

The outage is necessary as Chugach had taken the Girdwood Substation out of service Aug. 6 to perform maintenance. The community is being served by a mobile substation while Chugach crews accomplish the work. The mobile unit will now be removed from service and the Girdwood Substation placed back online.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
