Chugach awarded Tree Line USA Certification
Chugach Electric Association received certification as a Tree Line USA Utility for the fifth year
in a row. John See, from the State Division of Urban and Community Forestry, presented the national
certification at Chugach's Nov. 19 Board of Directors meeting.
The certification is a National Arbor Day Foundation program that recognizes outstanding right of
way and vegetation management practices, and community involvement in tree planting practices around
power lines. The National Arbor Day Foundation was founded in 1972 to help people plant and care for trees.
The certification process also includes providing quality tree care, conducting annual worker
training and public education. Chugach has a comprehensive program to professionally manage vegetation
in its rights of way. Chugach's program is overseen by a certified arborist on staff.
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska. Chugach serves retail consumers at nearly 75,000
metered locations from Anchorage to the northern Kenai Peninsula, and from Whittier to Tyonek. Chugach
provides power to residents from Homer to Fairbanks through wholesale and economy energy sales to other
utilities throughout the Railbelt.
