Chugach Electric completes storm related clean-up
Chugach Electric has completed repairs to its lines and facilities damaged in last week's snowstorm after
snow-laden trees and tree branches made contact with lines and caused hundreds of outages throughout its service
territory. This particular storm was unique in that many of the trees that caused the outages were located well
beyond the rights of way.
Chugach has an ongoing right of way maintenance program that is based on a 3 to 3½ year clearing cycle. The
ROW program also includes a program of trimming or removing danger trees (trees that are dead or in danger of
falling) outside of its right of way. Clearing within and outside of Chugach's ROW is normally done with the
property owners written permission. In an emergency trees are removed as required to restore power.
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt
through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
