The Department of Energy (DOE) is currently in the process of developing guidelines for state-administered “Home Energy Rebate” programs under the inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Once these guidelines are published, the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) will craft rebate programs that align with DOE approval of Alaska’s energy rebate programs, AHFC will proceed to implement and administer them, with applications expected to open in 2024.
The Home Efficiency Rebate Program will aim to incentivize whole-house energy savings retrofits, offering incentives of $2,000 for a 20% reduction and $4,000 for a 35% reduction in energy consumption. These incentives are doubled for households with incomes below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Similarly, the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate Program will provide point-of-sale discounts on high-efficiency electric appliances and home electrical upgrades, with participation limited to households with incomes below 150% of the AMI.
