Chugach is preparing to launch Alaska’s first community solar project that will allow members to voluntarily subscribe and receive solar energy from the project.

Member-installed renewable generation, also known as net metering, allows a member to install and use certain types of renewable generation to offset monthly usage and sell excess power to their electric utility. The Regulatory Commission of Alaska’s net metering regulations became effective in 2010.
Are you interested in installing solar panels or other renewable generation at your locations? If yes, follow the steps below:
Review the Safe Solar Systems guide, which is a member guide to selecting and installing approved solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in the Chugach Electric service area. This document will provide a summary of the process to select, install, and connect a PV system.
To begin the new metering application process, or for general comments, please submit an Engineering Request using the “Customer Generation” option. Before you order equipment and install your PV system, complete and submit the Application for Net Metering Installation along with detailed equipment specifications and your proposed system schematic (one-line) to the link provided in the email response to your request. A $225 non-refundable fee is required to be submitted with the application. After the fee has been paid, your application will be reviewed and signed off by a Chugach representative.
If you are in the Anchorage Bowl, the city inspectors will need to see Chugach’s signature on your schematic (one-line) before they can “green tag” the solar panel installation. For more information on green tags, please contact the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) about an electrical inspection. This step is required before Chugach will allow you to energize your solar panel installation. For those outside the Anchorage bowl, a representative from Chugach will come out and inspect your installation instead of the MOA.
Finally, before you energize your system you must complete and submit the Interconnection Agreement and receive written approval from a Chugach representative.
Is your business ready to take the next step toward achieving its sustainability targets? Our “Green Up” program, available only to commercial members, allows your business to support renewable energy and reduce its carbon footprint without changing your existing energy infrastructure. Whether it's for daily operations or to power your special events, this program lets you align your energy use with clean, local renewable sources like wind—making it easy to showcase your commitment to environmental responsibility.
The process is straightforward. By purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) through Chugach, the energy your business consumes will be matched by locally generated renewable energy. You’ll still receive the same reliable electricity, but with the added benefit of contributing to a cleaner future. Elevate your business’s impact and make a powerful statement—green up your electric bill today.
