The Department of Energy (DOE) is currently in the process of developing guidelines for state-administered “Home Energy Rebate” programs under the inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
The Home Efficiency Rebate Program will aim to incentivize whole-house energy savings retrofits, offering incentives of $2,000 for a 20% reduction and $4,000 for a 35% reduction in energy consumption. These incentives are doubled for households with incomes below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Similarly, the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebate Program will provide point-of-sale discounts on high-efficiency electric appliances and home electrical upgrades, with participation limited to households with incomes below 150% of the AMI.
