Chugach Electric names new substation
Chugach Electric is renaming its new South Anchorage Substation after Robert W. Retherford at a ceremony at 10 a.m., Friday, March 16. Retherford was the first chief engineer for Chugach, working at the utility from 1950 to 1954. He went on to start his own engineering firm, R.W. Retherford and Associates. At the time of his death in October 2006, Retherford had accumulated more than 50 years professional engineering experience in Alaska.
Chugach's new substation in South Anchorage was fully energized and loaded in July and was one of three projects known as the South Anchorage Loop that will significantly improve the regional transmission system.
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
