Oceanview outage over in 90 minutes
Chugach’s early-morning outage Friday, Nov. 21, in much of the Oceanview, Oceanview North, Flying Crown and Poggas Subdivisions was shorter than anticipated. The outage started at 2:30 a.m. and residents had power restored by 4 a.m. – well within the scheduled window from 1-5 a.m.
Chugach replaced three damaged insulators, like the one at the top in the photo. The recently-discovered damage was on a 7,200 volt distribution line that could not be fed from another power source. Chugach elected to complete the work through a scheduled outage rather than risk having the insulators fail unpredictably, thereby causing an extended outage.
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
