Chugach Electric conducts election recount
Recounting the ballots cast in the recent Chugach Electric Association's director's election produced the same results - albeit with a few minor changes to individual totals.
On May 2, former Chugach director Uwe Kalenka - one of six candidates in the utility's director election that concluded April 24 - requested a recount of this year's director election results as provided for in Chugach's bylaws.
The recount was performed Wednesday, May 7. The original election results and the recount results are as follows:
Original ballot results | Recount results | |
Janet Reiser | 7,972 | 7,978, for a gain of 6 votes |
Liz Vazquez | 7,943 | 7,945, for a gain of 2 votes |
Rebecca Logan | 7,621 | 7,623, for a gain of 2 votes |
Uwe Kalenka | 7,444 | 7,448, for a gain of 4 votes |
Mark Wiggin | 7,365 | 7,364, for a loss of 1 vote |
Tony Izzo | 6,985 | 6,987, for a gain of 2 votes |
The recount did not change the outcome of the election. Rebecca Logan, Janet Reiser and Elizabeth "Liz" Vazquez were elected to 3-year terms on the Chugach board. Election results were announced at the cooperative utility's annual meeting Thursday evening, April 24.
Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
