Chugach base rates change

Base rates for demand and energy for retail customers of Chugach Electric Association rose 1.3 percent, effective today. The increase was largely driven by distribution storm-related costs during the fourth quarter of 2011 and lower retail sales. At the same time, demand and energy charges decreased for Chugach wholesale customers. Rates fell 3.0 percent for Homer Electric Association, 2.8 percent for Matanuska Electric Association and 2.5 percent for the Seward Electric System. Lower power production expenses and increased sales contributed to the decrease. The rate changes were requested by Chugach in a March 30 filing with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska. The RCA approved the request May 3.

Chugach is the largest electric utility in Alaska, providing power for Alaskans throughout the Railbelt through retail, wholesale and economy energy sales.
