Chugach Electric members elect two directors
The membership of Chugach Electric Association, Inc. elected two directors in the 2026 annual election. After four weeks of voting, Penny Gage was elected and Rachel Morse was re-elected to the utility’s seven-member board of directors. Election results were announced Friday, May 29, at the electric cooperative’s annual meeting held in Anchorage at ChangePoint Alaska.
Four candidates ran for the two open seats on the Chugach Board of Directors. Gage and Morse will both serve four-year terms.
Out of 89,310 eligible members, 9,951 Chugach members cast ballots in this year’s election, a voter turnout of 11.1%. Of the members who voted, 9,852 voted before the annual meeting, and 99 members cast ballots in person at the meeting. There were 315 members who registered at the meeting, which had an estimated attendance of 400.
Bylaw amendment approved
Chugach members also approved one bylaw amendment. The amendment corrects grammar, removes sections previously repealed, and makes other non- substantive revisions to the Bylaws. A second proposal to amend both the Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation, authorizing the board of directors to set the one-time membership fee charged to new members, did not pass. That proposal required a two-thirds majority.
Hundreds turn out for Member Appreciation Event
Prior to the annual meeting, a member appreciation event was held at ChangePoint featuring tours of Chugach’s Southcentral Power Project, bucket truck rides, electric vehicle displays, energy education, and more. An estimated 1,500 people attended the event held under blue skies and warm temperatures.
