Goal is to reduce reliance on natural gas, pursue clean energy supply

As part of its ongoing efforts to reduce the dependency on natural gas and achieve board-directed decarbonization goals, Chugach Electric Association, Inc. is moving forward on the investigation of potential hydroelectric sites around Southcentral Alaska.

Chugach Electric Association, Inc. continues to strengthen its natural gas supply strategy by entering into a five-year firm storage service contract with Hilcorp Alaska Gas Storage (HAGS).

350 turkeys donated to 11 local nonprofits

Dinner tables across Anchorage will be brighter and more complete this holiday season, thanks to the longstanding philanthropic spirit of Chugach Electric Association, Inc. The annual turkey delivery by the member-owned cooperative is underway, with Chugach donating 350 turkeys to 11 local non-profits. 

Chugach Electric Association, Inc. (Chugach) filed a request with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) to update its base rates, which is known as a general rate case, on August 18, 2025. Chugach is requesting a 3% permanent increase to total retail bill levels compared to current rates.

S&P Global Ratings (S&P) has affirmed Chugach Electric Association’s credit rating of ‘A’ with its short-term commercial paper program affirmed at ‘A-1.’ The rating agency also provides an outlook of “stable” for Chugach. 

In its report dated July 15, 2025, S&P cites several reasons for affirming Chugach’s rating including its diverse generation resource portfolio, “which exhibits significant capacity, efficiency, and economics, and our view that management is being proactive in terms of power and gas supply strategy.” 

Bylaw amendment approved

The membership of Chugach Electric Association, Inc. elected a new director to the utility’s seven-member board of directors in the 2025 election. After four weeks of voting, election results were announced Friday, May 30, at the electric cooperative’s annual meeting held in Anchorage at ChangePoint Alaska.

Three candidates ran for the one open seat on the Chugach Board of Directors. Members elected Katherine Jernstrom, a local business owner, who will serve a four-year term.
