Spreading some holiday cheer, Chugach Electric Association, Inc., (Chugach) is sending capital credits to thousands of past and long-term members as part of a more than $3 million retail capital credit retirement. The Chugach Board of Directors approved the retirement at its Oct. 25, 2023, board meeting.

After more than four years of study, analysis, and stakeholder engagement, the owners of the Eklutna Hydroelectric Project have released a draft program to protect, mitigate damages to, and enhance fish and wildlife resources impacted by the hydro project, located about 30 miles northeast of downtown Anchorage.

As required by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA), Chugach Electric Association, Inc., filed a request to update its base rates, which is known as a general rate case. The filing was made on June 30, 2023.

Coordination at Beluga River gas field provides significant savings

Chugach Electric Association, Inc., has signed a shared services agreement with Hilcorp Alaska, LLC (Hilcorp) that will result in improved operational efficiencies and provide significant cost reductions associated with the operation of the Beluga Power Plant and the Beluga River Unit (BRU) gas field.

Chugach Electric Board of Directors member Rachel Morse has been named to the Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA) Board of Trustees. Morse, who has served on the Chugach board since January 2018, was elected to a three-year term with NWPPA at the organization’s annual business meeting held in Anchorage last week.

Chugach Electric Association, Inc. members elected three directors to the utility’s seven-member board of directors. Election results were announced Friday night, May 19, at the electric cooperative’s annual meeting. There were 264 members who registered at the meeting, held at ChangePoint in Anchorage, and an estimated 450 in total attendance.

Chugach members re-elected Bettina Chastain and elected Susanne Fleek-Green and Jim Nordlund to the Chugach Board of Directors.

A professional engineer with over 25 years of experience with a leading energy company in the Upper Midwest is joining Chugach Electric Association, Inc., as Chief Strategic Officer. Allan Rudeck Jr. will join Chugach in June 2023.

Chugach Electric Association’s Board of Directors has appointed Bernie Smith to fill the interim vacancy on the Chugach board. Smith’s appointment comes after Director Erin Whitney resigned last month following her acceptance of a position with the U.S. Department of Energy. Smith was among 11 Chugach members who applied to fill the vacancy. All 11 applicants were interviewed by the Chugach board and the appointment was announced at the board’s Feb. 22 meeting.

Director Erin Whitney resigns to take federal job

Chugach Electric Association’s Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Director Erin Whitney. Whitney is leaving the Chugach board to take the position as Director of the Arctic Energy Office for the U.S. Department of Energy. Whitney was first elected to the board in May 2021. She served as vice chair of the Governance Committee and was a member of the Operations Committee. As a result of Whitney’s resignation, Chugach has an immediate vacancy on its seven-member board.
