Bylaw amendment approved

The membership of Chugach Electric Association, Inc. elected a new director to the utility’s seven-member board of directors in the 2025 election. After four weeks of voting, election results were announced Friday, May 30, at the electric cooperative’s annual meeting held in Anchorage at ChangePoint Alaska.

Three candidates ran for the one open seat on the Chugach Board of Directors. Members elected Katherine Jernstrom, a local business owner, who will serve a four-year term.

Members can subscribe and support renewable energy

Enrollment is open in Alaska’s first community solar program. Offered by Chugach Electric Association, Inc., the program gives members a chance to voluntarily subscribe to solar panels from a solar facility built and operated by Chugach.

Chugach Community Solar is a 500-kilowatt (kW) AC, four-acre project with 1,560 bifacial panels. The project is located next to Chugach’s Retherford Substation in South Anchorage, about a half mile south of the Dimond Center.

ANCHORAGE, AK – Feb.6, 2025 –Today, Harvest Alaska (Harvest), announced an agreement with Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) and Chugach Electric Association (Chugach) to bolster Southcentral Alaska energy supplies through Harvest’s acquisition and re-development of the existing Kenai LNG Terminal, currently owned by a subsidiary of MPC. The project is designed to repurpose existing assets to enable the timely delivery of additional natural gas supplies to the Southcentral market as early as 2026, with full-scale operations beginning as early as 2028.
