Chugach Electric Association is donating more than 6,000 pounds of turkey to 15 different local charitable organizations. In previous years, Chugach has made similar donations to local charitable organization.
Chugach will deliver the 450 turkeys to local charities Dec. 17 and 18.
Chugach Electric Association has scheduled an outage for customers served by the Indian Substation. About 170 metered locations from Rainbow to Bird will be affected. The outage is necessary for transformer maintenance. It is expected to be approximately 1-2 hours long, beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7.

Chugach Electric Association has scheduled an outage for customers in Moose Pass. The outage is expected to be approximately 8 hours long, between 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 18 and 6:00 a.m. Friday, October 19.
The outage is necessary to replace a broken pole.

Chugach's Member Services Center will be closed on June 1, 2012 for conversion to a new customer information system. Regular business hours will resume as of 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4.

Sisi Cooper and Jim Nordlund were elected to 3-year terms on the Chugach Electric Association board of directors. Election results were announced at the cooperative utility’s annual meeting Thursday evening, May 17. Steve Strait was also a candidate in the election.
About 15 percent of the Chugach members of record voted, with about a third of the votes cast via the Internet. It was the second year Chugach members were able to vote electronically. In 2010, Chugach and other cooperatives sought and received a change in state statutes to permit electronic voting.
Base rates for demand and energy for retail customers of Chugach Electric Association rose 1.3 percent, effective today. The increase was largely driven by distribution storm-related costs during the fourth quarter of 2011 and lower retail sales. At the same time, demand and energy charges decreased for Chugach wholesale customers. Rates fell 3.0 percent for Homer Electric Association, 2.8 percent for Matanuska Electric Association and 2.5 percent for the Seward Electric System. Lower power production expenses and increased sales contributed to the decrease.
Chugach Electric Association will host a forum for candidates running for the utility’s board of directors. As a cooperative, Chugach is governed by a seven-member board elected by and from its membership. The forum provides an opportunity for Chugach members to hear firsthand from candidates and ask them questions.
Three Chugach members are running for the two available seats on the cooperative’s board in this spring’s election. The seats are for 3-year terms.
The candidates in this year’s election are Sisi Cooper, Jim Nordlund and Steve Strait.

Chugach will host a “Meet the Candidates” night at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at Chugach’s headquarters building.
This winter has caused extensive damage to electric facilities, especially on the northern Kenai Peninsula. Chugach Electric Association estimates it has spent more than $2 million responding to storm damage this winter. At least three-fourths of the total has been spent restoring power and repairing damaged power lines and structures in the mountains from Moose Pass and Cooper Landing to Turnagain Arm.
Chugach Electric Association has completed a $250 million bond financing at very favorable interest rates. The transaction closed on Jan. 11. The bonds carry a weighted average interest rate of 4.36 percent, with the rate on individual tranches varying from 4.01 to 4.78 percent.
